Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Purpose: Education Docents present programming in an informal classroom setting to students K-12. Education Docents also support the Museum's special education events - National Nuclear Science Week and DiscoverSTEM Week - and may assist with outreach (such as science fairs, Scouting events, and more). Topics generally include history and basic sciences.
Responsibilities:
o Teach 20-minute and 60-minute programs
o Actively engage students in activities and share your enthusiasm for science/history
o Assist in supervising groups of students on Museum tours
o Project yourself as a role model and maintain a cheerful demeanor
o Be knowledgeable about the Museum's exhibits and able to express key points

Annually the Museum presents education programming to 200+ groups (5,000+) students, K-12. Our programming is aligned with the New Mexico Education Standards.

Additional Requirements: 

The time commitment for this position is variable as it is based on customer needs and scheduling. Be advised that the busiest times are the months of October, and February through May. Most programming occurs during the weekday mornings, with occasional afternoon and weekend programs.
