Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Our volunteer reading mentors help elementary students enlarge their world by exposing them to a love of books. Reading mentors commit to spending one hour, one day a week to mentor K-4 students in one-on-one sessions for a school year. We volunteer during the school day in Albuquerque, Belen​ and Bernalillo Public Schools. Oasis trains volunteers to use our 6-step literacy approach in their sessions with students. We recommend that newly trained reading mentors commit to two years, the length of time that the fingerprint volunteer clearance is valid.

Our focus is to impact the reading level and literacy of elementary students with a focus on 1st through 3rd grade public school students.

Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring will provide training in our 6-step literacy approach, annual support meetings, library resources and will fund your fingerprint background clearance.
