Dates Volunteer is Needed:
July 2018, August 2018-May 2019
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Tutors volunteer during or after school (at the library) to assist elementary and middle school children with school work. If needed, tutors receive training to assist children challenged by learning disabilities.
Tutors work under the direction of classroom teachers who supply materials and direction to the intervention. Commonly volunteer tutors lead reading circles or assist with homework help. Volunteer commitments are usually 1-2 hours per day/2 days per week.
Embudo Valley Tutoring Association targets the most vulnerable children to receive the support they need: these children are learning disabled, more than 1 year behind in school work, socio-economically disadvantaged, and live in rural areas.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
EVTA works with students in Rio Arriba Count and Des Montes, Taos. EVTA targets the most vulnerable children to receive the support they need: these children are learning disabled, more than 1 year behind in school work, socio-economically disadvantaged, and live rurally. Most students are elementary age, some are middle school, and occasionally we tutor a high school student or GED candidate.
