Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Aug. 2016 - May 2017 (twice a month - 5:15 - 8:30 pm)
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Volunteer Support Group Facilitators are the backbone of our program. They lead grief support groups for children, teens, or adults, either in the North Valley or in Rio Rancho. Facilitators are trained, teamed up with more experienced facilitators, and supported by our staff. Facilitators come from all walks of life, and are not required to have any experience in support groups or counseling. As one of our volunteers wrote, “This is the most rewarding thing I do.” The time commitment is approximately 3.5 hours one evening every other week for 1 year, plus 16 hours of training – next training - August, 13th & 14th 2016
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Children and adults who have had a loved one die often feel very alone. The Children's Grief Center helps them to share experiences and feelings while grieving a death in a caring and accepting environment. Not only are the participants greatly impacted, but also the volunteers who lead the groups.
