Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Twice a month, 5:15-8:15 p.m. throughout the school year
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
With supervision and support, compassionate listeners from all walks of life serve as bereavement facilitators. Volunteer Support Group Facilitators are the backbone of our program. As one of our volunteers wrote, "This is the most rewarding thing I do." After taking the training, volunteers are paired with an experienced facilitator to lead grief support groups for kids (and adults) who have experienced the death of a loved one. Groups meet twice a month throughout the school year.
There are 2 options for CEU seekers while learning how to support bereaved youth:
Option 1: The entire 2-day training ($260 for CEU seekers - 13 CEU; $45 for bereavement facilitators)
Option 2: One day of the 2-day training ($150 for CEU seekers) for 7.5 CEU (2 of which are Cultural CEU)
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Grieving families in central New Mexico find hope and healing at CGC. The community benefits because kids who get support are less likely to act out in unhealthy ways, like substance abuse and crime. The volunteers, too, will benefit from the resiliency and courage of the participants.
