Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Crossroads for Women is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated volunteer to host a cooking/kitchen skills class at our downtown location. The ideal volunteer would be knowledgeable in kitchen skills, kitchen safety, and health/nutrition. An example of desired group content would be preparing a meal from start to finish: discussing menu planning and grocery shopping (where to look for recipes, how far in advance can one purchase ingredients and discuss the different shelf lives of different foods, how to plan a well-rounded meal), how to prepare the meal (basic kitchen skills like cutting, dicing, which knives to use for what), and kitchen safety (like how to chop vegetables safely, how to make sure meat is cooked all the way through). Group would be held consistently on a weekly basis, on any day Monday through Friday for an hour between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. There would be some room for flexibility in availability from month to month.

This project will impact women who are part of a CRFW program, who are maintaining sobriety, living independently or in transitional housing, and have a history of being formerly incarcerated.
