Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Do you have interest in event planning, social media management, and community building? Would you like to spend a year changing lives and having fun? Gain professional experience and use your creative energy to make Albuquerque a better place!

This volunteer position is full-time and a year-long commitment beginning February 2015. Volunteers will be required to attend an AmeriCorps* VISTA Volunteer training before their year of service begins, and out of state travel may be required. Travel expenses will be covered by the AmeriCorps* VISTA program.

The Heading Home VISTA volunteer will work within the development department, along-side our Development Director and Volunteers and Events Program Manager to implement fundraising strategies and events, recruit and train volunteers, and develop and manage tracking and organizational systems for the development department.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

Adult men experiencing homelessness who receive services and emergency shelter at Heading Home Albuquerque Opportunity Center, and hundreds of medically vulnerable individuals that have experienced chronic homelessness who have been housed through the ABQ Heading Home initiative.

Nonprofit Will Provide: 

The AmeriCorps VISTA program will provide a modest living allowance of approximately $900 per month as well as health coverage and childcare, if needed. Other benefits include student loan forbearance or deference and a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or post-service stipend. It is important to note that Vista volunteers are prohibited from performing paid work outside of their sponsoring agency at any time during their year of service.

VISTA positions are open to all US citizens, nationals, and lawful permanent resident aliens age 18 or older.
