The Santa Fe Children’s Museum is proud to present 6 programs that we have adapted to be responsive during the pandemic. These include Virtual Field Trips, Grab and Go Kits, Open Garden and Camps for children. The Children’s Museum was incorporated in 1985. As one of only two Children’s Museums in the State of NM, the Museum provides dynamic, hands-on learning through cultural and educational programs that build family and community connection, and excite children about STEM learning and the arts.
The informal education and community-building socialization provided by these programs are equally effective during COVID restrictions and as health orders lift. A key part of our strategic plan in designing these initiatives has been to ensure that they can be delivered regardless of the current phase of reopening. The 6 programs dovetail together, in order to meet a variety of needs.
Virtual Field Trips
Virtual Field Trips are available free to assist teachers during this challenging time. Currently, we have 4 distinct shows (Fun in Space, Plants and Animals, Weather, and Earth Science, for each grade K-4). Every program includes Culturally and Linguistically Relevant information that helps the children relate their learning to their own life in NM.
Grab-and-Go Kits
For at-home learning, we envision 25 distinct “Grab-and-Go” Kits, providing lessons, instructions, and materials for STEM, art, and Early Childhood activities. Once the kits are developed, they can be produced by the thousands at a reasonable cost, for families that do not have broadband access.
Early Childhood Education and Maker Camps
Two different camps are open for registration: Wee Adventures responds to the need for our youngest kids to have increased socialization and stimulation, and Maker Mondays encourages campers to build and decorate complex projects interweaving STEAM into a problem-solving challenge.
Open Garden
Open Garden offers families the opportunity to relax together, away from screens, as they explore our acre+ outdoor learning space and community garden. Access for All and Outdoor Equity is ensured by a broad array of free or reduced entry fees to essential workers, teachers, and recipients of SNAP benefits.
