Lt. Governor Diane Denish announced three designate today, to lead a team to generate a proposal for the Social Innovation Fund. Claire Dudley (New Mexico Children's Cabinet), Robin Brule (Office of Philanthropic Outreach) and Greg Webb (New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism) will serve as co-leaders of the state's plan to develop the New Mexico proposal to apply for the newly formed Social Innovation Fund available through the Corporation for National and Community Service.
The Social Innovation Fund was authorized by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, and signed by President Obama in April 2009. The Act lays out a broad funding framework which will be awarded to existing intermediary grant-making institutions through a competitive, peer-reviewed process. These grant-making institutions will then award sub-grants to community non-profit organizations. The proposal for the Social Innovation Fund Grant will come from the New Mexico Commission for Community Volunteerism, under the leadership of the three designates.
"This team has intimate knowledge of the state and will write a proposal that could mean millions of dollars for New Mexico's non-profit organizations," said Lt. Governor Diane Denish. "During these challenging economic times, our state's non-profits are vitally important in providing services for New Mexicans in need. A winning proposal would definitely help these groups serve more of our people."
In the upcoming days the three designates will roll out a comprehensive approach to creating the proposal, which will include the development of a "grant writing team" comprised of a cross-section of diverse stakeholders from around the state.
