Nonprofit & Public Sector Collaboration: NMLeg Update - Nov 16

Passed in the 2015 New Mexico Legislative session, HM129 called for the creation of a nonprofit and public sector collaboration working group to study how the state can collaborate more effectively and efficiently with nonprofit organizations.

Although the working group was not funded, an update on HM129 is scheduled for the Legislative Health and Human Services Committee on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 10:00am in room 309 at the Round House in Santa Fe.

It would be great to have nonprofit sector advocates present at the committee meeting to share personal stories concerning contracting, payments, reporting, etc., and to talk about how the system can be improved.

This legislation was based on surveys and stories from nonprofits around the state. Currently, nine other states have formed similar task-forces or working groups to address this important issue. The actions of some of these task-forces have saved the state, and taxpayers, hundreds of thousands of dollars annually which allows nonprofit to spend more time carrying out their missions rather than addressing bureaucratic red tape.
