"For almost 30 years, the National Philanthropy Day Awards have highlighted the wonderful things New Mexicans are doing to help each other."
-- Ron Eppes, 2015 NPD Chair
“We have many challenges here [in New Mexico] that tend to get most of the attention, but NPD is a chance to focus on the positive things people are doing to help others," Mr. Eppes says.

Inspiring others from a young age

Last year’s award recipient in the middle school category is an inspiring young philanthropist.  Ruby Selvage, a Los Alamos Middle School student, has found many ways to help others including donating her hair twice, clearing land for a community garden and raising money for her local animal shelter. Ms. Selvage and a friend also spent almost a year researching and creating a video for kids about bullying.
"We have recognized people and groups from Las Cruces, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, and Farmington, [among other areas of the state]. This is a diverse and generous state with examples of leadership in philanthropy from every community. We encourage nominations from around the state."
-- Stephanie Miller, Nominations Chair
