Do You Have Service Learning Opportunities?

Get youth involved in your nonprofit!

More high schools are now including service learning as part of their curriculum. If your organization offers these opportunities, now is the time to create your summer service learning project.

Two great ways to gain visibility and get students for your project:

  1. Post it on New Mexico Volunteer Connection.
  2. Come to the Service Learning Networking Session March 16, 2016. This is a fantastic way to connect with high school teachers looking for a variety of opportunities for their students.

What's the difference between community service and service learning?

Community Service is focused on service first.  Service Learning is focused on learning first, the experience and the service happen within that.

Benefits of hosting students

Has your nonprofit considered the benefits of offering service learning and hosting a student to do so?

  • Students bring energy and enthusiasm to their work
  • Students are ambassadors for your organization as they share their experiences with their peers
  • You will learn as much as you teach, mentoring is often a growth experience for everyone involved

If you have never created a service learning opportunity, check out Volunteer Management Resources and scroll down to the Service Learning section for helpful information.
