Policy Associate

Job Description
Type of Job: 
Full-Time
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Engage in and carry out responsibilities of YWU policy work, as assigned by Policy Director and in coordination with Policy Team
Work as part of YWU’s year-round legislative team, specifically holding Criminal Justice Reform and health policy efforts (working full-time in Santa Fe during the legislative session and potential travel across New Mexico for engagement in interim committees)

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Engage in issue-based coalitions, collaborations and work groups as pertaining to YWU change-making issue areas
Observe, digest and understand how policy strategies impact structural change through YWU’s reproductive justice intersectional lens
Engage in and support issue analysis, policy research and YWU project research
Document and evaluate policy activities
Sustain and build relationships with allied organizations and key partners

Other Information/Requirements: 

Excellent communication skills: written and oral
Proficiency with email, Google Suite (Gmail/calendar, chat, hangouts, etc), Microsoft Suite, etc.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
2+ years experience in a policy position or doing policy work
Experience working (significant advocacy or lobbying) in a state-based legislative system
Fluency in two languages used In New Mexico (english, spanish and/or others)
