Mission Statement:

YWU is a community organizing project by and for young women of color in New Mexico. We believe in the rights of all people to access the information, education, and resources needed to make real decisions about their bodies and lives.

Primary Programs:

We work with women and families to identify issues impacting their lives and collectively organize  and build policy efforts at the intersections of their identities and lived experiences. Social change should come from those most impacted by an issue.

Our cross-sector strategies in creating community-based systemic and policy change include: Albuquerque based community organizing, statewide campaign and policy initiatives,  leadership development of young women of color, creation and distribution of media by and for communities, and strengthening statewide and national reproductive justice alliances.

We organize with our members, leaders, and activists to defend reproductive rights and build reproductive justice, improve the access young people have to quality reproductive health care, build educational equality for pregnant and parenting teens, improve access to prenatal care and treatment for substance-using pregnant women, and ensure that women of color and low-income women have access to all birthing options.

We have organizing circles of leaders, members, and activists that meet with us on a regular basis.
* Circle of Strength for young women of color 13-19
* Circle of Fire for young women of color 19-35
* Sister Sharing Circles for women of color interested in pregnancy and parenting
* Panocha Platicas-a safe space for women of color over 18 to discuss sex, sexuality, and our bodies
* Luna Sagrada/Sacred Moon Collective-women of color who offer free prenatal, labor & birth, postpartum, and breastfeeding support to low income pregnant and parenting people of color.
We welcome people to get involved in our work and are happy to share more information on any of this!
