Part-Time Temporary Art Instructor

Job Description
Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Visual art instructor to teach introductory level workshops. Candidate will have experience working with middle & high school students & also be comfortable working in multigenerational settings. 10 to 15 students/workshop, meeting twice/week. BFA in visual art or equivalent experience required. Bilingual Spanish speaking a plus.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Collaborating w/the visual arts program director, instructor will guide aesthetic qualities of the workshops (technique, materials, installation, format) & help students shape the content/research based on their passions/interests. We strive to give students agency over their work & inspire self-driven social action communicated through visually challenging, contemporary artwork.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Teach 2 introductory workshops: 1) Day of the Dead workshop (Sept. 22-Nov. 1), focused on co-creating artwork/components for a contemporary processional in the South Valley Muertos y Marigolds parade. 2) Political Piñatas, Paper Maché workshop (Nov. 5–Dec. 12) Students will create paper maché piñatas based on a political theme/human rights issue/political persona.

How to Apply: 

$25 per hour, $350 materials budget/workshop
6 hours/week teaching, 2 hours/week of set-up/prep time,10 hours for additional preparation/wrap-up per workshop. (maximum compensation $1450/workshop)
