Mission/Giving Statement:  Wilburforce Foundation protects wildlife and targeted wildlands in Western North America by actively supporting organizations and leaders advancing conservation solutions.

Grantmaking Program Areas:  Priority Regions; Conservation Science; Capacity Building; Conservation Law & Policy

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Priority Regions:  Includes the "Southwest Crescent" that lies partially within southwestern New Mexico. Funding is based on the Foundation's assessment of opportunities and /or threats to the landscape.

Conservation Science:  The Wilburforce Conservation Science Program (CSP) is intended to enhance the ability of the regional programs and their grantees to effectively adopt and share scientific information, methods, tools, and solutions while keeping an eye to important opportunities that cut across all Wilburforce funding regions.

Capacity Building:  The Foundation is committed to developing individual and organizational competencies and capabilities that contribute to sustainability and effectiveness. It does this by underwriting capacity-building services for its grantees so they can increase their knowledge and skills.

Conservation Law & Policy:  Sound conservation policies and strong, effective laws are essential for the protection of biodiversity, connectivity and wilderness. At the federal, state and provincial levels, strong policies and laws have been the basis for protecting critical wildlife habitat, preventing habitat fragmentation, delaying or averting reckless resource extraction, and otherwise preserving our natural ecosystems.
