About Us:

Mission/ Giving Statement: New Mexico Community Foundation (NMCF) is a statewide grant-making and programmatic community foundation established in 1983. NMCF supports community projects and underserved communities by pooling resources to support New Mexico’s people, strengthen the state’s nonprofits, and grow philanthropy and endowments, especially in rural parts of the state.

Grantmaking Program Areas: Rural Community Development; Education and Leadership; Philanthropic First Responder

Grantmaking Program Area Descriptions:

Rural Community Development: A community-based approach to philanthropy creates locally controlled assets and invests them to strengthen rural people and places. This investment builds a community’s ability to shape a better future and promote the well-being of all community members. It unites the tools of community and economic and resource development, engaging all people to come together with their voices, ideas, strategies, talents and giving. NMCF’s rural development efforts take many shapes, from encouraging community-based economic development solutions, to helping build community hubs for education and social services.

Education and Leadership: Highlights of this program area include: Fiscal Sponsorship Program - enables new organizations to raise money for programs, and provides guidance and oversight as needed to expand capacity and develop best practices.   Native American Preparatory Scholars Fund – an initiative and endowment fund of NMCF that supports increasing the number of New Mexico Native American students who shall aspire to, be prepared for, and graduate from colleges and universities. College Scholarships - originated through donor advised funds, assist high school graduates to pursue their academic goals.

Philanthropic First Responder: NMCF has several emergency funds to respond to immediate emergency needs throughout the state.  With the help of our generous donors, NMCF can respond creatively and quickly to emergencies in the state, by supporting nonprofits as direct service providers who are on the ground doing the work to respond quickly to family and individuals’ emergency needs.

Application Instructions: While NMCF does not accept unsolicited proposals, NMCF welcomes receiving submissions from their General Information Organization Profile Form.  The form is available online at:
