Description

This timely workshop is designed to provide a strong overview of the various components of fund development, including the value of designing a fund development plan. The overview will briefly discuss revenue options, including grants, fundraising events, annual donation campaigns, donor cultivation, bequeaths a social enterprise (revenue generation programs).  The core part of the workshop will focus on nonprofit sustainability. It will provide information on successful sustainability practices and methods for long term financial strength. A key component is financial diversity so that an organization is not dependent on any one source of income.  The workshop will have a brief conversation on collaboration and mergers.  The workshop will be interactive and will include activities designed to help organizations develop strategies for long term financial sustainability.

Presenter:  Frank René López

Frank is the Executive Director of New Mexico Association of Grantmakers. He has over 25 years working with businesses and nonprofit organizations, including three years with the WK Kellogg Foundation as the Director of New Mexico Programs. The depth of his experience, however, comes from his work as an executive director, providing capacity building to a myriad of organizations. His expertise includes collective impact, social enterprise, strategic planning, nonprofit governance and taxation, leadership, board development, DEI and fund development.

He is a “teacher at heart” and has taught at several universities and has delivered presentations all over the country. His experience in business, philanthropy and nonprofit organizations provides him with a unique understanding of nonprofit organization success and impact. Lopez has published articles in the areas of Corporate Social Responsibility and Teaching Race & Law. He has a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, a JD from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, and he is licensed to practice law in Texas and California.
