Goal Setting for Women of Color in the Nonprofit Sector

Registration is closed for this event

Are you a woman of color who wants to get clear on your professional goals for 2020? Join us to take a holistic look at where you're at and how to reach your goals.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a deeper understanding of your strengths and how they are being applied in your professional life
  • Define clear goals for the next 3-6 months
  • Create a road map for getting your goals

Description

As women in the sector, we make up the majority of front-line positions (just take a look around your office) while executive leadership and board positions are predominantly held by men. As women of color, we are aware of the lack of representation at all leadership levels.

Whether you want to move into a leadership position at your organization or make a change, you need time to think and breathe and plan. On top of your professional goals and balancing a busy personal life, it feels like there aren’t enough hours in the day!

This session will help you take a holistic look at where you are in relation to where you want to be. We’ll use a proprietary goal-setting framework to clearly define your leadership and personal development goals. Through group discussion and hands-on planning, you will walk away with a road map for the next 3-6 months.

Guiding Practices for Nonprofits

  • Nonprofit leaders should provide employees with an opportunity to self-evaluate, at least annually, in order to engage them in their own professional development planning and goal setting.
  • Nonprofits should provide employees with ongoing performance-related feedback, a performance evaluation at least annually, and encourage participation through self-evaluation in order to engage them in professional development planning and goal setting.
  • Nonprofit supervisors should meet with employees on a regular basis to review professional development goals.
  • Nonprofit leaders should encourage the ongoing development of skills and knowledge of employees at every level within the organization.
  • Nonprofit leaders should prioritize and model a healthy balance between professional and personal life.
  • Nonprofits should promote education and professional development, and provide equitable opportunities for growth and advancement of employees.
  • Nonprofits should define their compensation philosophy, balancing internal equity with market-based research and livable wages for all employees.

The Guide is available as a free digital download at CNPENM.org/Guide. Hard copies of the Guide and Companion Workbook will be available for purchase at this training for $25 each with a credit card or check.
