Making It Work: Tools for a Successful Volunteer Program (In Person or Online)

Volunteer managers leverage an organization's resources and build community support.  They provide a vital link between the volunteers and the organization.  Volunteer managers are responsible for managing the infrastructure of the program and the day to day operations.

This session will look at some components of a good working infrastructure to maximize your efforts.

Presenters

Norah Doss is the Volunteer Specialist at Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails.  They recruit, train, and manage nearly 3,000 volunteers and partner with many community organizations and businesses throughout the state.  While relatively new to the position, Norah has worked with nonprofits such as Girls Inc. and Boys and Girls Club in the past—though the volunteer development department at Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails is extremely unique. 

Traci Pepper, Volunteer Programs Coordinator, Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico.  Traci manages the volunteers for both the House and Family Room as well as special events such as Girls Night Out, Southwest Charity Golf Tournament and the Swing Fore the House Golf Tournament.

Drora Schub is the Volunteer Coordinator at Explora, a science center in Albuquerque, NM. Her position includes the recruiting, placement and training of volunteers for all aspects of the Explora mission and programs. Previously she was the Director of Volunteers and Community Engagement with Childhelp USA Village in Arizona.

Kathryn Venzor is the Education Curator at the Albuquerque Biological Park, where she oversees educational programs and volunteer coordination. BioPark Education Volunteers are trained to enhance visitor experiences at the Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden and Tingley Beach, as well as provide outreach conservation education programs throughout the state. 

Julie C. Garcia, ARM-P, SPHR, Regional Director at Poms & Associates, is a prominent adviser on Risk Management issues.  Julie brings thirty years of experience in Civil Rights and Human Resource Management to Poms & Associates and the Loss Control Team.  Her training specialties include ADA compliance, Identifying Sexual Predators, Title VII compliance, and many other Employment Practices liability issues.  Julie is a certified Associate Risk Manager with a Public Sector endorsement (ARM-P) and a Senior Professional Human Resources Manager (SPHR).
