Dates Volunteer is Needed:
March 31, 2017, 8am-1:30pm
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Join the Recuerda a César Chávez Committee for a fun-filled day of volunteering at the historic Sanchez Farm in the South Valley, Albuquerque. Over 300 elementary and middle school students will be taking a field trip to the farm to participate in the 8th Annual Dolores Huerta Day of Service and Learning.
The students will rotate through a variety of hands-on workshops (solar ovens, worm composting, native herbs, acequias, etc.) throughout the morning and early afternoon. There are a variety of volunteer positions available.
The Dolores Huerta Day of Service and Learning is an opportunity for students to learn about the legacy of César Chávez and the farm worker movement. Each March, the committee visits classrooms to do presentations before the students take their field trip so that the youth have an understanding of the history behind the Day of Service and Learning.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Elementary and middle school students from 8 different Albuquerque schools.
