New Mexico Long Term Care Ombudsman Program
Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Ombudsmen are advocates and problem solvers for more than 12,000 individuals in nursing homes and assisted living facilities across New Mexico. Through regular visits with long term care residents, they provide a voice for elders and adults living with disabilities at a time when they are particularly vulnerable.
Ombudsmen assist residents by advocating for their rights, investigating complaints and helping to resolve their concerns, and ensuring they receive the care they deserve. Services are free, confidential, and provided statewide by a dedicated corps of volunteers and staff. Volunteer Ombudsmen come from all walks of life, and share a common desire to make a difference in the lives of others. In just three hours a week, they make a world of difference.
