Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

In 2019, Animal Protection of New Mexico (APNM) will celebrate its 40 years of effective animal advocacy and changing systems and polices for the protection of animals. To prepare, we are seeking an archivist who can help us digitize our forty years of history found on paper in aging file cabinets. The work will be tedious, but interesting for the right person(s).

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

The organization and its employees will be better able to draw upon past successes and lessons learned to inform its current initiatives. APNM constituents and the general public will benefit by being able to access a library of animal rights history and laws. APNM will be able to tell the 40-year story of the life-saving work of a home-grown, statewide animal advocacy organization.

Nonprofit Will Provide: 

Workspace in downtown Albuquerque, dedicated computer system with redundant backup drives, data management software, high speed scanner, access to New Mexico's top leaders in animal advocacy (three of which were featured for their work in 2017 in Albuquerque the Magazine), lunch and snacks on occasion.

Additional Requirements: 

Looking for candidates with library experience, computer savvy, familiarity with data management software such as DevonThink (preferred but not required), some familiarity with the animal rights movement preferred, good communication skills, commitment to a regular work schedule.
