Teach Adults to Read and Write as a Volunteer Tutor

Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

We are looking for volunteer tutors (18+) to meet one-on-one with adults who cannot read or write in their native language. 16% of ABQ adults are not literate in their mother tongue. An additional 38% cannot read or write above a 3rd grade level. We have a waiting list of clients who would like to be helped. Tutoring is one-on-one for 2 hrs. per week.

~There is no experience necessary. Volunteers will undergo a 2-day ProLiteracy training
~Volunteers and clients meet at a minimum of 2 hrs. per week for at least 6 months.
~Volunteers submit monthly progress reports and receive guidance and support.
~We can find a convenient public place for you to meet. (eg. Public library, Reading Works library, coffee shop, community center)
