Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Sidewalking is a hands on experience helping children and adults with developmental delays and disabilities learn to ride a horse. You are walking beside the horse to ensure the rider safety and help them with learning the skills needed to become independent equestrians.

No experience is necessary, our training program will teach you everything you need to k now. You should be healthy and able to walk at least 30 minutes in the sandy arena and be able to assist a rider from the horse in case of emergency. Weekly attendance is encouraged so riders have consistent helpers.

Additional Requirements: 

Must be willing to help in all types of weather and in an outdoor arena. We do cancel on extreme weather days, but riding continues during winter and on hot summer days. Must be healthy and able to walk at least 30 minutes in a sandy arena. You must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and/or assist a rider to the ground during emergencies. Techniques will be taught during orientation.
