October 2018 through May 2019 , Once per weekly after-school ~4-6PM

Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Tutor ​1st​ ​through​ ​9th​ ​grade​ ​students on a weekly basis. Tutors focus​ ​on​ ​Reading​/Writing ​and​ ​Math as well as help with any other specific school project/assignments in progress. In addition we will be adding after-school enrichment in STEM area, guitar and chess.

We need 10-15​ ​Volunteers​ ​to resource 2 hour time blocks once per week at 2 different locations​ The minimum commitment we are looking for is 2hrs/week from each tutor/volunteer. Tutors are encouraged to establish 1:1 relationships with specific students during the sessions if possible so they can be a more effective student/tutor team.

Horizons​ ​is​ ​a​ ​nationally​ ​recognized​ ​academic​ ​enrichment​ ​program​ ​that​ ​addresses​ ​the​ ​achievement gap​ ​and​ ​summer​ ​learning​ ​loss​ ​for​ ​public​ ​school​ ​students​ ​from​ ​low-income​ ​families​ ​that​ ​qualify​ ​under the​ ​federal​ ​income​ ​guidelines​ ​for​ ​free​ ​or​ ​reduced​ ​lunch.​ The Albuquerque chapter supports > 150 students across 1st through 9th grade.
