Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Once a week, after training ( beginning Jan/Feb 2018)
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
We will train and support volunteers to be prepared to offer Respite Care to families who care for a member in their home who suffers from Dementia. Mature people of any age may apply. You will learn about what is dementia, skillful behaviors for being with people who have dementia, including some creative modalities such as music, collage, theatre.
After training, volunteers will be supported by our staff when there are questions or concerns. You will help one person at a time, giving their primary caregiver(s) a chance to go out of the house. You will be keeping a 'friend' with dementia safely engaged and comfortable for a few hours, usually in their own home, but also out.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Spouses/Families; People suffering from Dementia; Volunteers (You) will learn from the training and the experience, develop new personal resources, open opportunities, and know that you are making a difference.
