Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

J.U.N.K in a Trunk: Learning through Play Workshops is a volunteer program that supports adults who are working with young children.Play Workshops are provided free of charge to early childhood educators, home visitors and families throughout Bernalillo, Sandoval & Valencia counties.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

Ultimately young children will be impacted by this program. The workshops provide high quality professional development training to those who work with young children. Also impacted, are early care & education centers that participate in the workshops. The skills learned during the workshop can be immediately applied in their everyday activities.

Minimum Age of Volunteers: 
25
Nonprofit Will Provide: 

25 hours of training will be provided for Play Advocates
Training will include:
 Child development overview
 7 Essential life skills-overview
 Foundations of learning through play
 Principles of Facilitated Learning
 Core content for workshops

Additional Requirements: 

Qualifications for Play Advocate:
 Belief that young children learn through play
 Background in child development (preferred but not required)
 Experience with children
 Comfortable with public speaking
 Willing to make a 2 year commitment and be able to present 5 workshops a year.
