Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Friday, March 2 or Friday, April 27 - full day starting at 8:00 a.m.
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
The New Mexico Humanities Council needs judges for National History Day competitions at regional competitions and the state level. NM students (public, private and homeschoolers) will research and create a project (individual or group) around the 2018 theme: "Conflict and Compromise." Project categories include research paper, exhibit, performance, documentary and website.
The local competitions are set as follows: Regional Contest - Mar 2, 2018, State Contest - Apr 27, 2018
There are three divisions from 4th grade to high school seniors. After speaking to the students, each set of judges will confer to decide an order ranking of the entries. Interested individuals can follow this link to learn more, review training materials and register to be a judge: http://nmhum.org/NMHC.php?p=134
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Judges are critical to the contest as they give students a chance to talk about their research and work as well as giving them written constructive feedback. Volunteers will be inspired to see how students, research, analyze and present their historical information and tie it to their present day lives as connected by the 2018 theme: "Conflict and Compromise."
