Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

We’re seeking individuals who love meeting new people to serve as Museum Docents. Docents create an engaging atmosphere for Museum visitors, answer visitor questions and provide information related to current exhibits, lead tours of the exhibit galleries, promote events and Museum Membership, and provide customer service at all levels of the visitor experience.

Each year more than 60,000 visitors visit our Museum. As a Docent, your interactions with visitors will inspire them to learn more about our Nation's history ... as well as STEM educational topics.

Nonprofit Will Provide: 

Topics in the Museum include U.S. History (1930s through Cold War era), military aircraft, and nuclear science (radiation, medicine, energy production and more). Knowledge or interest in one or more of these topics is a plus.

Training: The Museum provides peer-to-peer mentor training, as well as written training materials that provide a foundation of knowledge. Individuals are also encourages to conduct their own self-study of the topics.

Additional Requirements: 

Time Commitment: Docents are scheduled on a recurring weekly basis. Each Docent shift is 4-hour hours in length (9 am to 1 pm, or 1 pm to 5 pm). Docents may also choose to sign up for special tours, education programming, facility rentals, or events outside of their regularly scheduled shift.
