Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Reading Works is recruiting volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors. A perfect opportunity to bring about real change through literacy.

Our next Volunteer Recruitment Coffee Hour is April 3, 2015 at 9:00am. Join us if you have questions. If you are reading this after April 3rd, check our website to see when another Volunteer Recruitment Event is scheduled.

Board members to begin service May 2015.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

Reading Works serves the most vulnerable in our community: the poor, women, immigrants.
90% of our reading/writing clients enter our program reading below 6th grade level, and about half of those read below 3rd grade level.
Reading Works serves these lower level readers - English speakers who do not succeed in traditional classroom educational settings.

Minimum Age of Volunteers: 
18
Additional Requirements: 

1. Written application, references, background check
2. Interview
3. Attend monthly board meetings, held on a Saturday morning
4. Serve 2 years
5. Make a financial contribution of $1000 each fiscal year (waived for hardship)
6. Actively participate in a project (like fundraising, marketing)
7. It's recommended you attend a Basic Literacy Tutor Training
