Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring program is a volunteer opportunity designed to engage committed adults who share their time and talents by providing individual attention to K-3 students. The program is conducted in collaboration with Albuquerque (APS), Rio Rancho (RRPS) and Bernalillo (BPS) Public Elementary Schools. Oasis volunteers are trained then paired with students who teachers feel will benefit from a caring, one-on-one mentoring relationship. Serving as reading mentors, the volunteers plan weekly sessions utilizing a research based, six-step literacy approach. The program concept is to be engaging, to share the joy of books and to be fun for both the mentor and the student. Reading mentors help students build confidence and experience success in planned sessions based on both the student and the mentor's interest.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
