Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Using SHC-NM provided course materials, volunteers engage individual classrooms or school service clubs in discussion about the effects of homelessness on children and their families and introduce Housing First.

Duties may include one or more of the following:
 Present curriculum materials in classrooms and lead discussions
 Distribute canisters to participating classrooms & collect donations
 Obtain donations for incentives for classroom and club participants
 Assist classes in developing fundraising or service projects for SHC-NM
*All volunteers will be required to complete a volunteer application and go through a volunteer orientation. A background check may be required.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

Students will learn that there are many reasons a family may be homeless and that being in a stable, safe housing is a necessary first step to preventing the downward spiral that often happens when people become homeless. As a part of the learning experience, students have an opportunity to reflect upon and contribute to the mission of SHC-NM.
