Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

The New Mexico Philharmonic's Young Musician Initiative is looking for 4 to 6 volunteers each day to assist with homework, as well as monitor hallways during bathroom breaks. Regular volunteers (from 1x per week to 4x per week) are especially appreciated.

The program runs 2:45-3:30pm Mon-Thur, excluding school holidays/closures.

Fall semester currently ongoing, ending Dec. 8
Spring semester begins January 23, ending May 15

National Hispanic Cultural Center, Pete V. Domenici Education Complex

Volunteers must complete an APS volunteer background check. The NM Phil will pay the cost of background checks for those volunteering on a daily or weekly basis.

For every 4 days volunteered, the NM Phil will give each volunteer one comp ticket to one of the two spring Pops shows listed below.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

The Young Musician Inititive (YMI) is an after school program for kids in Title 1 schools. In addition to help with their regular schoolwork, they are taught to read music and play an instrument.
The teachers and parents all report increased grades, better behavior and teamwork among the participants.
This is a free program to the kids.
