Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

We are installing smoke alarms in homes near the Vecinos del Bosque Park as part of the American Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness campaign (https://www.homefirepreparedness.org/cms/ ) There will be a short how to session at 10:30am. We will split into teams of 3 – an educator to talk about smoke alarms maintenance and fire safety, i.e. family escape plan; a documenter to keep track of needed information and fill out the paperwork; and an installer to install one or two smoke alarms per home. You can expect coffee and lunch and a fun community day in honor of the Martin Luther King Day of service. Dress in layers and comfortable shoes; we will be walking outdoors but we will also be entering homes for up to 20 minutes at a time.
