Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Help Wildlife and Improve Recreation Access:
This year, the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance is focusing stewardship efforts on the Valles Caldera National Preserve, to remove fencing that will increase access, decrease impacts to wildlife and engage the community in stewardship with the National Park Service as their 100th Anniversary celebration approaches.

The New Mexico Wilderness Alliance is a grassroots organization dedicated to the protection, restoration, and continued enjoyment of New Mexico's wildlands and Wilderness Areas. In our eighteenth year, we have thousands of members across New Mexico that work with us to protect and restore the wild public lands that make New Mexico the Land of Enchantment.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

Hikers, backpackers, trail runners, mountain bikers, snow shoers, fishermen and back-country skiers will benefit from the fence removal project that will provide unfettered access to the Valle grasslands and old roads that will be open to mountain biking. The project will also greatly improve wildlife habitat.
