Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

The Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) is seeking a responsible, dedicated, non-scientific community member to serve on the PHS Institutional Review Board (IRB).

IRB members are expected to attend monthly meetings and serve as general reviewers on all research. Members vote to approve, disapprove, request modifications for, or defer research submitted to the IRB. IRB members are responsible for maintaining required training and certifications. Nonscientific members of the IRB are not required to have expertise in any scientific area, but are expected to provide input on matters related to their individual knowledge, expertise and experience, professional and otherwise.

The PHS IRB protects all human research participants, including those populations deemed to be "vulnerable" under federal regulations (pregnant women, children, prisoners).
