Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

ReadWest is in its 26th year of helping Adults in Rio Rancho and West Albuquerque learn to Read, Write and Speak English. We train Tutors to work one-on-one with Adults seeking to improve their lives through enhanced Literacy. Tutors volunteer to work with their students for 2 hours each week. Our goal is to help our students achieve learning goals they set which can vary from reading to their children, helping with homework, getting a new job, a promotion or even their GED. In addition to volunteer Tutors, we are also seeking Board Members who have a passion for Literacy.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

The most at-risk members of the community benefit by learning to Read, Write and Speak English. The majority of our students are female. The strongest indicator that a family will live in poverty is that the parents lack a high school education. The entire community benefits when parents learn to read.
