Dates Volunteer is Needed:
Every Saturday and June 7, Tuesday, from 8 till 2
Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
Santa Fe enjoys one of the best farmers markets in the country. The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute, a non-profit sister organization to the Market, advocates for farmers, provides equitable access to fresh, local food; and manage programs to help sustain a profitable, locally-based agricultural community. We need the help of many volunteers, and one new exciting position is that of Farmers Market Docent --- this is a job for someone who enjoys helping the farmers/vendors, socializing with customers, and being in the thick of things during Saturday markets. We have lots of behind-the-scenes jobs too for the more introverted among us.
Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
First, the volunteer will be positively impacted, next the small farmers, and of course the general community. SFFMI proudly accepts and doubles the value of SNAP (food stamps), provides micro loans to farmers, teaches children about nutrition, and offers classes to farmers on professional development, water conservation and innovative farming practices.
