Description of the Volunteer Opportunity:
The City of Albuquerque is recruiting AmeriCorps VISTA members for their new Experience Matters program, a partnership with Cities of Service and AARP to engage adults age 50+ as volunteers in literacy development and academic achievement programs. As part of the program, two AmeriCorps VISTA members will work out of Albuquerque City Hall and build capacity and raise awareness for the program. Experience Matters VISTAs will work alongside senior level city staff and nonprofits, build community and organizational capacity, and be a part of a nationwide network of Cities of Service VISTA members.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project:
Cities of Service and its program partner AARP have launched Experience Matters to mobilize volunteers ages 50+ to tackle a driver of poverty related to financial security and youth academic performance. From providing tailored tutoring support to making exterior home improvements, citizen volunteers will be making a difference on poverty and making communities stronger.
