Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

The Southwest Preparatory Learning Center is a state-chartered charter school and therefore, has its own Governing Council. The Council provides oversight in three key areas - academics, financial and operational.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

The school serves students in grades 4 through 8. There are 217 students maximum. Students are taken in to the school by lottery that was held on March 12, 2018 for next year. There is now a wait list for those not drawn.

Additional Requirements: 

Governing Council members are volunteers and must attend annual training with the New Mexico Public Education Department. Trainings are offered consistently throughout the year in different cities in the state.
