Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

The President shall be the chief executive officer and shall have general supervision of the affairs of the corporation under the direction of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee and all of the business in accordance with the Bylaws. They shall preside at meetings of the membership, of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Committee. The President shall prepare annual reports and attend the NAMI New Mexico Annual Meeting, shall sign all documents authorized by the Board of Directors, perform other duties as prescribed by the Board, and shall recommend committee chairpersons except the Nominating Committee. The President publicizes Board meeting agendas. All requests for NAMI Albuquerque representation in the community shall go to the President.

NAMI-Albuquerque is an effective mental health organization dedicated to empowering and enlightening Albuquerque’s diverse population through advocacy, education and support. Volunteers are celebrated yearly and acknowledged through the type of work they contribute to the community.
NAMI-Albuquerque accomplishes its mission by:
• Providing education programs for families, individuals, providers and communities;
• Promoting innovative education and support in diverse community settings;
• Working to abolish stigma;
• Working with all branches and levels of government to promote systems change and expand resources;
• Providing safe environments to promote resilience and recovery.

Additional Requirements: 

Once contacted by the Nominating Committee, we will ask you to complete a short application and provide a resume. If your experience links with the needs of our board, we will contact you for an interview and request a bio to present to our current Board. We will ask you to join our open board meetings from now until the position opens, at which point NAMI Albuquerque membership votes on nominees in June.
