Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

An ACT Lead implements local, state and federal advocacy activities at the congressional or state legislative district level by working with ACS CAN grassroots and government relations staff and volunteers. ACT Leads play a critical role in helping ACS CAN and the American Cancer Society reach their goals of saving lives and defeating cancer by impacting public policy. ACT Leads are expected to serve in a manner that upholds the goals and principles of ACS CAN.

Nonprofit Will Provide: 

• Leadership training provided by ACS CAN grassroots and government relations staff and/or SLA
• Quarterly national conference calls
• Monthly Division conference calls

Additional Requirements: 

• Successful experience working collaboratively and communicating well with staff and other volunteers
• Some interest in political organizing, electoral campaigns or lobbying
• A desire to make an impact through advocacy work in the fight against cancer
• The ability to encourage and foster the passion of others in their fight against cancer
