Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Tutor ​2nd​ ​through​ ​8th​ ​grade​ ​students on a weekly basis. Tutors focus​ ​on​ ​Reading​ ​and​ ​Math with Writing​ ​and​ ​Science​ ​supported​ ​at​ ​some​ ​level.

We need 5-7​ ​Volunteers​ ​per​ ​tutoring​ ​session​. We​ ​will​ ​use​ ​an​ ​online​ ​schedule​ ​to​ ​ensure​ ​we​ ​have​ ​minimum required​ ​tutor​ ​headcount​ ​to​ ​support​ ​the​ ​student​ ​population​.

Tutoring​ ​program​ ​will​ ​be​ ​from​ ​September 28​ ​through​ ​mid-December​, ​2017.​ ​​ ​Plan​ ​for​ ​1​ ​day/week​ ​from 4:30-5:30​ ​(tentatively​ ​Thursdays​ ​).

Horizons​ ​is​ ​a​ ​nationally​ ​recognized​ ​academic​ ​enrichment​ ​program​ ​that​ ​addresses​ ​the​ ​achievement gap​ ​and​ ​summer​ ​learning​ ​loss​ ​for​ ​public​ ​school​ ​students​ ​from​ ​low-income​ ​families​ ​that​ ​qualify​ ​under the​ ​federal​ ​income​ ​guidelines​ ​for​ ​free​ ​or​ ​reduced​ ​lunch.​
