Description of the Volunteer Opportunity: 

Court Appointed Special Advocates are "the eyes and ears of the court." Advocates gather information and interview everyone involved in a foster child's life in order to make recommendations and reports to the presiding judge. These reports and recommendations ensure that a foster child receives all service in order to be safe, have a permanent home and thrive. Advocates are also one of the only consistent and caring adults in a foster child's life during a very difficult time.

Who Will Be Impacted Through This Project: 

CASA speaks for children. The individuals impacted by a volunteer opportunity with Court Appointed Special Advocates are children who are currently in the foster care system.

Minimum Age of Volunteers: 
21
Nonprofit Will Provide: 

*32 hour CASA Advocate training
*Development of professional skills
*Meaningful experience you can add to your resume
*Connection with the Santa Fe, Rio Arriba and Los Alamos communities

Additional Requirements: 

*At least 21 years old
*One year commitment
*Commitment to spending 8-10 hours per month on assigned case
*Ability to visit your foster child every few weeks
*Ability to communicate orally and in writing
*Ability to pass criminal and CPS background check
