Summer Art Camp - Teaching Artist

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Teaching Artists will work with students and Guides at Harwood’s Summer Art Camp to offer in-depth skill building as well as opportunities for individual and creative exploration to campers. Each class will culminate in an exhibition or sharable documentation. Teaching Artists will work closely with Guides and Lead Guide in the classroom and Harwood Administration outside of the classroom to provide a supportive, fun, safe and structured learning experience for the campers.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

• Be prepared to teach each class, including preparing the classroom environment each day;
• Present clear and consistent expectations for class structure, behavior and work in the classroom;
• Provide relevant lessons and support the work being done by the students;
• Communicate with Guides, Lead Guide and/or Harwood Admin about any questions or concerns regarding children, tools and materials, or other Summer Art Camp Staff;
• Prepare and display or direct end of session exhibition or performance

Other Information/Requirements: 

Additional knowledge, skills and abilities preferred:
- CPR and First Aid Certified;
- Bachelor’s Degree in arts related field and / or Master’s Degree in Arts Education desirable, but not required.
- Experience teaching in the arts;
- Experience teaching children and youth, ages 6 – 14;
- Interest in summer camps and nonprofit organizations.

SCHEDULE
5 – 15 hours per week, or 1 – 2 classes per session / Monday – Friday during normal business hours throughout June and July 2022.
