Main Areas of Responsibility:
Interviewing applicants on legal issues, providing legal information, advice, referrals, and brief services such as reviewing legal documents, helping clients fill out legal forms and write simple letters, providing brief advocacy calls on behalf of clients and providing guidance for pro se clients who need help to prepare for a pro se court appearance or strategize the next step in a self-help legal matter. May also be asked to provide initial pleadings or other documents in emergency cases.
Additional Areas of Responsibility:
If appropriate, the Intake Attorney will also prepare the client case to be transferred for extended services by an NMLA practice group or specialty unit. Referrals may also be made to NMLA's statewide Volunteer Attorney Program.
