Staff Attorney for Low-Income Tax Clinic Project

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

The attorney will work closely with the LITC Director to handle tax controversy cases, whether in Audit, Appeals or U.S. Tax Court—and to implement appropriate collections alternatives, whether installment agreements or offers in compromise with the IRS. In addition, the attorney will help coordinate outreach events and help develop outreach materials.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

The LITC project has already won hundreds of thousands of dollars on behalf of low-income clients. We pride ourselves on having a team environment, with weekly team meetings offering opportunities for advice and feedback. The successful applicant will receive significant mentoring in substantive and procedural tax law.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Minimum three years’ experience as a licensed attorney preferred. Willing to travel. Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, manage a significant caseload and build collaborative relationships within the staff and the community. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus. Prior tax courses and experience practicing before the IRS will be highly preferred.
