Main Areas of Responsibility: 

New Mexico Legal Aid is seeking a Staff Attorney for our regional offices in Las Cruces. The Staff Attorney position will be part of our rural communities advocacy team and will represent clients throughout southwestern New Mexico.

The Staff Attorney will handle cases for low-income individuals and families in a wide variety of poverty law areas including family law, housing, public benefits, domestic violence and consumer issues.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

At least three years’ experience as a licensed attorney preferred, but will consider exceptionally well-qualified entry-level candidates. Must be licensed in New Mexico, or eligible for licensing by reciprocity, limited legal aid providers licensing, or by sitting for the next available New Mexico bar examination. Must be willing to travel.

Other Information/Requirements: 

Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, manage a caseload and build collaborative relationships within the staff and the community. Proficiency in Spanish or New Mexico tribal languages is a plus.
