Staff Attorney

Main Areas of Responsibility: 

Under the supervision of the Legal Director, the Staff Attorney will:
• Litigate impact cases and carry out other legal advocacy to address civil rights abuses, with a particular emphasis on the rights of immigrants and the Muslim community
• Strengthen the ACLU’s collaboration and communication with allied organizations, especially those working on behalf of immigrant and Muslim communities
• Provide “Know Your Rights” trainings and other education.

Additional Areas of Responsibility: 

Investigating, developing and litigating impact cases, including factual and legal research, interviewing clients and potential witnesses, preparing memoranda, drafting pleadings, briefs, and correspondence, conducting discovery, including depositions, drafting pleadings, trying cases, handling appeals and negotiating settlements.

Other Information/Requirements: 

• A strong and demonstrated commitment to civil liberties, civil rights and the mission and goals of the ACLU.
• J.D. degree and minimum of three years of litigation experience preferred. Relevant expertise on border, immigration, national security, or other related issues is also preferred, but not required.
